“There is an urgent need to improve education for all: if the current system does not change, many of today’s students will find it difficult to lead successful adult lives. As my exposure to the issues facing education grows, so does my passion to work towards finding solutions to the challenges. I believe education is the social issue of our time and I want to make a career addressing these challenges.”
Marni Pastor is the director of talent management for Pittsburgh Public Schools. In this role, Pastor oversees district recruiting and facilitates the district HR effectiveness work, an important part of the district's plan to support and empower teachers. Prior to her role in human resources, Pastor worked for the Office of Strategic Initiatives on various marketing and operations improvement initiatives to attract and retain students in Pittsburgh Public Schools. As a result of this work, Pittsburgh saw its lowest declines in enrollment in a decade and increases over projections in the number of kindergarteners. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Pastor was a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where she advised clients in many industries, including industrial goods, financial services and education on issues of strategy and growth. Previously, Pastor worked in the financial services practice of McKinsey and Company and in marketing at Bank of America. She is active with two nonprofit student volunteer organizations, National Student Partnerships and campusCATALYST, and served on the board of directors of both. Pastor holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern University and a master's in business administration from the Harvard Business School. Pastor participated in The Broad Residency in Urban Education Cohort 2008, serving her two-year Residency in Pittsburgh Public Schools.
